Most of the houses we work on went up between 1955 and 1984, with the typical build year sitting around 1968. That's true across the 16 areas we cover, but the closer neighborhoods and the farther towns don't age the same way. Downtown, Glenbrook-Belltown, Springdale, and the Newfield-Westover-Turn of River pocket a mile or two out are thick with that same 1960s-70s building wave - split-levels and colonials with garages added or built in as part of the original plan. Head out to Cos Cob (3 mi), Riverside and Old Greenwich (4 mi each), and Darien (4 mi), and you're still mostly in that era, sometimes a touch older on the lots closer to the water. Past New Canaan (5 mi) and Greenwich (6 mi), and further out to Wilton, Westport, Weston, Ridgefield, Redding, and Easton (11 to 18 miles), lot sizes get bigger and you start seeing a wider spread of build decades mixed in with the 1960s core. None of that changes what a garage door is made of, but it does change what's likely wrong with yours. A 1968 opener bracket and a door built to a 2005 code aren't solving the same problem.
