Most of the houses we get called to in Westport went up around 1968, and the opener that came with the house was built for that decade - a chain-drive unit, one wall button, no photo-eye sensors, no keypad. If that original opener is still hanging in the garage, it's outlived its gears, its capacitor, and usually its logic board twice over. What we see most is the chain slapping loose on a worn sprocket, a motor that hums but won't lift, or a unit that only responds every third try on the remote. None of that is a door problem. It's a 50-plus-year-old drive system doing exactly what old drive systems do. The fix isn't a part - it's a replacement unit sized for the door that's actually on the house now, not the door that was there when the opener went in. We travel to Westport from Stamford for this work, about 11 miles each way, so we schedule the visit rather than promising a same-day drop-in.
